"Good swell
Going surfing
At Wedge"
6 word memoir by George (12 years)
A good gauge of the quality of the surf at South Arm is by a quick count of the number of cars that spill over the Neck from the carparks which line Hope Beach. Up on the dunes surfers stand solemnly on the promontories deciding where the best waves are... to the east is Wedge, in the middle Sandpits and to the west RSLs. Locals know that Sandpits refers to the sandmining in the area while RSLs sits ocean-side (roughly) behind the South Arm RSL branch.
Those who have grown up in families where surf is in their blood are more comfortable wearing a wettie than clothes and can almost ride a wave before they can walk. Their surfboard towers over them but once in the water they are as agile as seals. And who knows what you might spot in the water...
