Mitchell's Beach

Those in the Peninsula know that we are spoiled for choice, with a beach for any mood never far away.

Mitchell's Beach is a surprise, hidden away from the more popular Opossum Bay, but over the years has become a favourite place for those in the know. Saltcote Homestead has stood here since 1939; each summer watching over countless boat launchings, explorations of rock pools and fishing expeditions.

Dad and I would pull our kayak down to the beach and felt excited by how many fish we would catch tonight. I felt the smooth sand and I smelt the salty air, breathing it in. We finally started paddling away in the calm water. We stopped paddling when we got deep and reached for the bait, we cast out our fishing rods and waited for a small tug…. Finally we felt a tiny tug on the string and I immediately started reeling it in. It was a flathead. Dad stabbed it with his knife and put it in the bucket. After catching numerous fish we watched the beautiful and breathtaking sunset and paddled to shore before it got dark. That night we ate the fish with salad and chips.
